Mexico City native and longtime Denver resident Sima Pomerantz died on February 25, 2024. She was 88. A service was held on February 28 at Mt. Nebo Cemetery, officiated by Rabbi Salomon Gruenwald and Rabbi Sarah Shulman. Feldman Mortuary made the arrangements.

Born on January 9, 1936, Mrs. Pomerantz completed secretarial college after graduating from high school in Mexico. She and Dr. Harold Pomerantz were married in Mexico City in July, 1956, and moved to Denver in 1958. Dr. Pomerantz died in March, 2005.

At age 60, Mrs. Pomerantz began working as a bilingual paraprofessional for Denver Public Schools, teaching students how to read and write English and basic math. She held that position for 25 years.

Mrs. Pomerantz was also active with the American Cancer Society, March of Dimes, Hadassah and Brandeis University.

“Sima was fiercely independent,” her family said. “She had a positive attitude toward life and was resilient when faced with loss and challenge.

“She was very active in her temple community and enjoyed learning about Judaism.”

Survivors are children Stewart (Andrea) Pomerantz, Dr. Bruce Pomerantz, Gail (Bruce) Shapiro and Dr. Joel (Mollie) Pomerantz; and grandchildren Julian, Samantha, Bryan, Zach (Jordan), Noa (Noah), Adlai and Harlow.
