Betty Gelt

Betty GeltBetty Goldie Gelt, a longtime volunteer and respected member of the Denver Jewish community, passed away Oct. 25, 2009, in Denver.

Rabbis Yaakov Meyer, Mordecai Twerski, Isaac Wasserman and Bernard Gerson officiated at the Oct. 26 graveside service at Rose Hill Cemetery. Feldman Mortuary made the arrangements.

“She took her last breath peacefully at home, surrounded by her family,” her loved ones said.

Mrs. Gelt was born June 3, 1912, in Denver. She graduated North High and attended DU.

She married Louis E. Gelt on Feb. 22, 1931. Mr. Gelt passed away on June 21, 1997.

A homemaker, Mrs. Gelt was very active in the Jewish community.

She was past president of the Denver Chapter of Hadassah, whose members honored her twice at their annual fundraiser; and chaired the Allied Jewish Federation’s women’s campaign in 1947.

She also belonged to Brandeis Women.

Mrs. Gelt is survived by two children, Theodore (Sharon) Gelt and Judith Sara Gelt; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by daughter Margaret Helen Gelt on July 22, 2004.
