Welcome, President Biden

We write on inauguration day. We do not know what how President Joe Biden’s policies will unfold. What are they, in their detail? Will they work? We do not know. We do know this: What a change in atmosphere. What a relief. Not that President Trump did not have his moments—particularly in Israel-Arab relations, but also in confronting China and trying to reverse damaging, overstuffed government regulations—but overall, we welcome the change in tone, the change in style, the change in language.

We hope that a far more efficient rollout of the anti-COVID vaccines will unfold, even as we remain grateful for the speedy development of the vaccine.

We hope that cruelties at the US-Mexico border will end, though without turning back into a sieve. That should be possible without separating children from parents.

We hope that the US will not reduce sanctions on Iran, since these sanctions reduce Iran’s export of terror to Lebanon, Yemen, North Africa and elsewhere — not to mention Hamas.

We hope that just as Morocco, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Sudan see the bigger picture — peace in the Middle East — the new administration will not fall back into the lockstep and deadlock of insisting that the Israel-Palestinian issue can only be resolved via unilateral Israeli concessions. Palestinian recognition of a Jewish state and withdrawal of a “right of return” to flood and transform the Jewish state, are not concessions. The focus must be on political rights, borders, economic interaction — and not on a Judenrein Palestinian state.

We hope that the media and the Democratic Party will let Donald Trump fade away.

We trust that Joe Biden’s team will work together cohesively, that the seemingly endless reshuffling of major positions will end. We hope that it is a new day in America.

So, the new name for Ambassador to Israel, has just been changed to Ambassador to Israel, Gaza, and West Bank. Do you need me to tell you what that means to Israel and those of us that care about Israel? This is just the beginning and you will see who gets Americas financial support now!
