Marvin Schultz

Martin SchultzDr. Marvin Harold Schultz, husband of Ethel Wedgle Schultz, formerly of Denver, passed away Sept. 27, 2011, in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. The funeral service and interment were held Oct. 2 at Forest Lawn North Funeral Home and Cemetery.

“Dr. Schultz was a man of the highest integrity and honor,” the family said.

He was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to the late Julius and Lena Schultz.

In 1946, he earned his medical degree from the University of Iowa, and completed his internship at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Bridgeport, Conn., in 1947.

Dr. Schultz began his medical practice in Waterloo, Iowa.

He joined the US Air Force as a captain of the medical corp. in 1950.

Upon leaving the military in 1953, he completed his residency at the University of Iowa.

Dr. Schultz entered into private practice in Marquette, Mich., in 1957 and relocated to South Florida in 1962.

He was one of the first otolaryngologists in Broward County.

Dr. Schultz became the chief of surgery at Holy Cross Hospital in Ft. Lauderdale. He introduced the first operating laser and microscope, which enabled him to perform microsurgery of the ear, nose and throat.

A Mason, Shriner and Kentucky Colonel, Dr. Schultz enjoyed fishing, hunting and football. He also was an instrument-rated licensed multiengine airplane pilot.

Dr. Schultz is survived by Ethel Wedgle Schultz, his wife of 58 years; sons Dean L. Schultz of Dayton, Ohio, Barry R. (Marcy) Schultz of Boca Raton, Fla.; son-in-law Barry Rosenthal of Pompano Beach; grandchildren Michael and Hunter Rosenthal, Pierce, Brooke and Skylar Schultz and Leland and Jay Schultz; and his brother Dr. Gerald T. Schultz of Ft. Lauderdale.
