Carol Davis

Carol DavisCarol Davis, loving mother, grandmother and longtime Denver area educator, passed away Feb. 8, 2014, following a recent stroke. She was 84. Rabbi Richard Rheins officiated at the Feb. 10 service at Temple Sinai, where Carol belonged for more than 40 years.

Interment followed at Emanuel Cemetery. Feldman Mortuary made the arrangements.

Carol was born Nov. 16, 1929, in Madison, Wisc., to Morris (Mo) Davis and Harriet Mae (Marcus) Davis. She and her sisters grew up in Madison, where their father owned a men’s clothing store.

She attended Monticello College for one year and then the University of Minnesota, where she graduated with a BA in 1951.

While in Minnesota, Carol married Philip A. Nevins. The couple moved to Dallas, Texas, and then to Phoenix, Ariz., in 1954.

Carol earned her MA in political science from Arizona State in 1964. She wanted to live in a larger community and moved to Denver with her two children in 1965.

Upon arriving in Denver, Carol worked briefly at DU and then taught history at South High.

She was married to Bruce Levinson for several years.

Carol obtained her guidance counselor certification and became a counselor at Jefferson County Schools. After retiring from Jefferson County Schools, she worked with the developmentally disabled at Shalom Denver.

Active in the Democratic Party, she was a precinct committeewoman and later a delegate to the Colorado State Convention. Carol was involved in campaigns to establish a park at the Four Mile House, the effort to build a pedestrian bridge over the Highline Canal and establish Mamie Dowd Eisenhower Park.

She was a member of Brandeis Women, Hadassah and the League of Women Voters.

An avid bridge player and golfer, she participated in the Temple Sinai choir for many years and was active in local theater productions with Temple Sinai and the Empire Lyric Players.

Carol was an extra on “Perry Mason” when the show was filmed in Denver.

She enjoyed many years with her canine companions Emmy and Corky.

Carol is survived by her son Jeff (Mary Jane) Nevins of Visalia, Calif., and daughter Kim Nevins of Denver; and grandchildren Erik Bromley, Alan Nevins and Heather Nevins.
