Sam B. Lustig, a WW II combat veteran, brilliant engineer and an installation artist, passed away on Veteran’s Day, Nov. 11, 2019, in Emeryville, Calif. Services were held Nov. 23 at Sinai Memorial Chapel in Oakland, Calif. Interment followed at Eternal Home Cemetery.
“Sam will always be remembered for his generosity and optimism, his keen, curious, analytical mind . . . and most of all his zest for life,” his loved ones said. “May Sam’s memory be a blessing to all who have known and loved him.”
Mr. Lustig was born April 2, 1922, in Ostrow Lubelski, Poland and came to Denver as a youth.
A graduate of North High, he earned a BS in mechanical engineering and an MA in aerodynamics at CU.
Mr. Lustig worked for the Colorado Bureau of Reclamation and the Colorado Dept. of Highways.
He was married to Marcia Brooks Lustig and Alida Anisman Stein. The marriages ended in divorce.
After retirement, Mr. Lustig became a kinetic sculptor.
He was passionate about art and traveling.
Mr. Lustig is survived by his children Merle Lustig, Brooke Lustig and Heidi Lustig: two grandchildren, Ben Lustig Glass and Lena Wynne Fulgham; two step-grandchildren, Hannah Heller and Daniel Glass; and six great-grandchildren.
