Painful follow up

Has Tisha b’Av taught us nothing?

Last week, in Tel Aviv, two people were killed in an attack on a gay community center. The homicide suspect: probably Jewish.

On Monday, 4 August, Rabbi Naftali Tzvi Weisz, also known as the Spinka rebbe, plead guilty, along with four others, to criminal conspiracy charges in a tax fraud case.

In the same week, a new US-Israeli crime ring perpetrating tax fraud against the US government was uncovered. The ring leader apparently fled the US in 2003, seeking refuge in Israel.

Fraud, hate, refuge granted to criminals – all themes discussed time and again on Rocky Mountain Jew.

And they continue.

We never imagined that our last posting, “Tisha b’Av links to the IJN”, which decried the demise of intra Jewish relations could be followed up with such horror and criminality.

It seems like Tisha b’Av, tragically, has taught us nothing.
