Opening night for Wolf Theatre coming

MACC will commemorate the grand opening of its new, 410-seat Elaine Wolf Theatre with a celebration honoring benefactress Elaine Wolf on Saturday, March 24, 7:30 p.m., at 350 S. Dahlia.

The evening will include a cocktail hour and ribbon cutting ceremony followed by the Grammy Award-winning Manhattan Transfer in concert and a gourmet dessert reception.

“Thanks to the unsurpassed generosity of Elaine Wolf, MACC will soon offer one of the most elegant theatrical venues in the region,” said Steve Wilson, MACC executive artistic director.

“A world class community celebration is the perfect way to raise the curtain on what we hope will be our central gathering space for many years to come.”

The event honors Wolf for making this ambitious project possible.

“When people enter a theater,” she says, “problems are forgotten for a short while and they are taken into a different world that entertains, refreshes and reenergizes our lives.”

The Elaine Wolf Theatre will be one of the most prominent performance venues in the Denver metro area.

With its elegant façade and resplendent interior, the theater features state-of the-art audio-visual equipment, expanded seating and easy access for disabled individuals.

In addition to a handicapped-accessible center row, an elevator at the mezzanine level will allow for additional accessible prime seating on the second floor.

Foothills Construction project manager Josh Thall says construction has employed over 40 workers per day, each working on different aspects of the theater that have been renovated.

Additional updates include a wood- paneled lobby with 100-year-old walnut from a now defunct bank downtown; an infrastructure that includes a mile-and-a-half of electrical conduit; 70 tons of steel; and a heating and cooling system that can be digitally controlled from any workstation in the building.

“WE’VE really loved working on this job,” says Thall. “In construction, building a theater is not a job one gets to do often. It’s been great to see this project take shape.”

The Manhattan Transfer, a harmony quartet has been performing for over 40 years. It has received several Grammy Awards.

The group’s sound, has been described as “four-part harmonies without limits.”

Proceeds from the event will help fund arts and culture programs at the new Elaine Wolf Theatre.
