Anita Marcus

Anita O. Goodman Marcus, a longtime Denver resident and volunteer, passed away Aug. 24, 2010, in Elk Grove, Calif.

“Her grandchildren felt blessed to have her in their lives, and she was known as ‘Aunt Neetsy’ to her six nieces and nephews,” the family said. “The Fishman family will also miss her.”

Anita Oppenheim was born in Kansas City, Mo., to the late Irving and Dorothy (New) Oppenheim.

 

She grew up in Denver, was confirmed at Temple Emanuel and graduated from East High School.

 

After raising her family in Shaker Heights, Ohio, she returned to Denver in 1960.

Mrs. Marcus was a lifetime member of Hadassah and served as chapter president in Denver and Marin County. She also was involved in NCJW.

An avid bridge player, she enjoyed playing tennis and began skiing in the 1960s. She particularly loved going to Winter Park, Aspen and Red Rocks.

Mrs. Marcus is survived by her daughters Joy (Ricardo) Pocasangre of Bellevue, Wash., and Cathy (Burnley) Hartrich of Tucson; brother Nelson Oppenheim and sister-in-law Ruth Strauss Oppenheim of Denver; grandchildren Devora (James Lucking) Campbell, Aaron (Elise Gruber) Campbell, Becca (Joshua Russert) Campbell, David (Sarah Hartley) Pocasangre and Brittany Wall; and great-grandchildren Benjamin and Miriam Lucking and Piper Campbell.

She was predeceased by her son Barry Burnley, who passed away at age 11.
