Aron, Feld awarded

Dylan Aron and Shana FeldShana Feld and Dylan Aron, graduating seniors at Herzl-RMHA, are recipients of the Rose Medical Center Outstanding Student Athlete Award for achievement in scholarship, leadership and athletics.

They received the honor at the school’s annual sports banquet on May 14.

Shana, a diminutive 4’ 11” dynamo, has lettered in soccer all four years and was captain of this year’s team.

The seventeen-year-old also added basketball and volleyball to her athletic repertoire in 2008-2009.

Shana began playing soccer at age five.

“I was always athletic,” she says. “My dad coached me in soccer my whole life, and my sisters also played soccer. I fell in love with it.”

Shana, who played center forward, describes herself as “a competitive person. I do enjoy winning. But I was always taught to try my hardest, put everything I can into it. Then I’m satisfied with myself.”

Dylan, 18, is an impressive 6’ 3.” A four-year letterman in baseball, basketball and soccer, he was captain of all three teams this year. He received the 5280 awards in basketball and baseball from the Colorado High School Activities Assn.

“It helps being tall –– a little bit,” he says of his prowess on the field.

A short stop on the baseball diamond who plays all five positions on the basketball court, Dylan summarizes his sports philosophy with characteristic brevity.

“I just like to have fun with it; see what happens,” he says.

Shana, actively involved with BBYO including two years as chapter VP, has a 3.8 GPA. Her favorite subjects are math, science and languages –– particularly Hebrew.

Dylan, who belonged to student council for the past two years, leaves RMHA with a 3.7 GPA. Biology and math are his primary academic affinities.

This fall, Shana heads to the University of Texas-Austin. She might try out for club soccer but not the varsity team.

Dylan, who is entering CU-Boulder, says he will probably compete for a spot on one of the teams “but it’s not a priority if I don’t make it.”

Like the majority of graduating high school seniors, Shana and Dylan are excited to leap into the future but also nostalgic for a present about to slip into memory.

“I’ll miss the close knit friendships I formed at RMHA, especially through sports,” Shana says. “That’s what I’ll miss the most. RMHA is small. We’re more like a family, and really care about and support each other.”

Ever the pragmatist, Dylan says he’ll “have to wait until next year to see if I miss anything.

“I will miss the sense of community here,” he adds seriously. “I will be going to a very large university, and it will be strange not to have that feeling anymore.”

Shana is the daughter of Sandy and Lisa Feld.

Dylan is the son of Lori Aron.
