On Veterans Day

Veterans Day is about two things: memory and honor. Not only honoring the memory of those who have served our country, but also honoring their efforts in securing peace on our behalf. Last week, an insert in the print version of the IJN, evoked these same emotions – memory and honor. The insert was about the opening of the new National Museum of American Jewish History in Philadelphia.

An essential aspect of Judaism – which we actually mentioned in our last blog posting – is the transmission of knowledge. While sometimes a difficult burden, being Jewish means being connected to a communal past. And this brand-new museum, housed in a newly-designed building, will hopefully go a long way to collecting and disseminating the history of American Jews. Located on Philadelphia’s Independence Mall, the museum will naturally explore the impact of Jews on the development of American society and governance. But there will also be exhibitions on American-Jewish life, complete with artifacts and interactive stations.

Memory and honor. Honoring and remembering those that came before, who battled on our behalf – either literally on the front lines of war, or in government, ensuring that Jews received equal treatment, or even in daily life as immigrants, ensuring their children had greater opportunities.

For anyone in the Philadelphia area, the grand opening is taking place this weekend. It’s official opening day?  Quite fitting, the Friday following Thanksgiving.

    Good afternoon, Happy Veterans Day!!

We simply just wanted to wish America’s 25 million veterans a happy veteran’s day. Plus let me quote Veterans Day quote that I actually love:

“In the beginning of a change, the patriot is a scarce man, and brave, and hated and scorned. When his cause succeeds, the timid join him, for then it costs nothing to be a patriot .. . — — — Mark Twain”..

When you actually have got to have additional info on veteran’s day activities, vouchers, the historical past, movies plus more and more, Military.com provides an excellent online archive with everything to help you.. ..
