The Intermountain Jewish News has won three awards in this year’s Colorado Press Assn. Best Newspaper Contest.
• Andrea Jacobs and Chris Leppek — first place, best series or sustained coverage: “They are also heroes.”

• Andrea Jacobs — first place, best feature writing: “Dysia Sonenreich: Suffering, Strength, Pride.”
Jacobs’ profile of local Holocaust survivor Dysia Sonenreich ran in the IJN Fall L’Chaim® magazine, Sept. 18, 2020.
• Chris Leppek — second place, best feature writing: “Denverite endured, survived 1970 Egyptian capture.”
A profile of Jeff Peer, an Israeli native turned Denverite who was taken prisoner by Egypt as an IDF soldier, the story ran in the IJN Chanukah Edition, Dec. 20, 2020.
The awards were announced May 20 at the annual press association convention, which this year was held virtually together with the Kansas Press Assn.
“I am proud of the commitment of our writers in addressing the tough and unprecedented issues that the COVID era brought,” said IJN Editor and Publisher Rabbi Hillel Goldberg.
“Even in a very challenging year, when work processes were forced to shift drastically, our staff remained committed to producing a paper of excellence on a weekly basis.”
