From Yasir Arafat to Navi Pillay: The Nobel Peace Prize disgraces itself

The inventor of modern terrorism, the chairman of the Palestinian Liberation Organization, Yasir Arafat, won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1994. The justification was Arafat’s consent to the Oslo Agreements to make peace with Israel.

Arafat violated the agreements so egregiously — launching a series of bombings in Israel — that the agreements needed to be rewritten two years later. No matter. Arafat’s Palestinian terrorism never stopped, culminating in his rejection of peace with Israel at Camp David in 2000 (frustrating President Bill Clinton to no end) — and in the Second Intifada (2000-2005). Arafat and his allies slaughtered some 1,000 Israeli civilians in a pizzeria, at a Passover seder, on city streets, on buses, wherever Israelis could be found.

That was Arafat’s definition of peace — that was the credibility of the Nobel Peace committee.

Now, round two. Last week’s Nobel Peace Prize went to South Africa’s Navi Pillay. Again, the Nobel committee disgraced itself. Pillay is a primary promulgator of the genocide lie against Israel.

Yes, it’s a lie because it ignores Israel’s massive efforts to prevent the death of civilians against its legitimate effort to kill Hamas operatives. Pillay says Israel deliberately destroyed Gaza’s medical system, instead of placing the onus on Hamas, which fought from within hospitals, turning them into military targets. Pillay says Israel deliberately withheld humanitarian aid from Gaza, instead of placing the onus on Hamas, which systematically diverted the aid to its fighters and sold the rest at a mark-up to the Gazan civilians who were supposed to get the aid gratis.

The Nobel committee focused on Pillay’s opposition to apartheid. There is a pattern here. Human rights activists go blind when it comes to Jews. Genocide is wrong, but it becomes OK if it’s written into Hamas’ charter — the destruction of all the Jews in Israel —and then acted upon most intensively on Oct. 7, 2023.

Pillay supported BDS against Israel in 2017, long before Oct. 7, long before war in Gaza, long before all the rest of her spurious charges against Israel. Nobel Prize committee, for shame!
