Super Sunday fundraising phone-a-thon is coming up

Amy Toltz-MillerThe Allied Jewish Federation of Colorado will sponsor Super Sunday on Sunday, March 11, 9 a.m.-9 p.m. at the Loup JCC, and on Monday, March 12, 5-8:30 p.m., at the federation, 300 S. Dahlia.

Chairs are Rachel Allen, Melinda Blatt, Jesse Blum, Aaron Cohen, Elyana Feldman, Kenneth Gurrentz, Joanne Kleinstein, Bob and Robyn Loup, Yossi Manor, Esti Marcus, Lisa Mintz, Nikki Naiman, Jamie Sarche, Michele Roth Scharg, Melanie Siegel, Marc Spritzer, Susan Stern, Kelli Trotsky Pfaff, Hugo Weinberger, Debra Weinstein and Adam Zall.

Super Sunday is a day-long, community-wide phone-a-thon that gives people across the Denver-Boulder Jewish community an opportunity to fulfill the mitzvah of tzedakah by making a gift to the community’s 2012 campaign flagship fund.

The federation young adult dept. will sponsor a “Tzedakah Happy Hour” in the evening chaired by Jesse Blum and Aaron Cohen.

“Our goal is to have every Jewish institution that serves our community — agencies, organizations, synagogues, day schools, youth groups, and others — take part in what we hope will be a very special day dedicated to the communal kupah, centralized giving,” says Doug Seserman, president and CEO of the AJF.

“The Talmud tells us that giving to a centralized fund is the highest form of tzedakah, not only because it expresses devotion to the entire Jewish people but also because it ensures a level of anonymity for both donor and recipient.”

Campaign and Philanthropy Chair Amy Toltz-Miller says:

“By involving the agencies that are directly impacted by federation’s allocable funds, we help our community understand how their unrestricted gift to the federation directly impacts the agencies we all know and respect.

“This year, the agency that closes the most gifts at Super Sunday will receive a bonus of $5,000.

“Federation raises funds not only for these organizations with local allocations, but also to help in crises overseas. It’s a true partnership.”

Debra Weinstein says:

“I have personally witnessed the importance of the federation at every stage of life. And while ‘dialing-for-dollars’ might not be the most glamorous initiative, I understand how vital Super Sunday is to the greater Denver Jewish community.”
