Silence during and after

The Vatican keeps pressing for the beatification of Pope Pius XII. If he passes this stage, Pius may very well become a saint. No doubt, the Catholic Church has individuals who deserve the highest honor its theology can bestow. Pope Pius seems not to be one of them. Jews and historians have long pointed out Pius’ inaction during the Holocaust. Aware of the death camps, he maintained a strict silence. Some say Pius acted with “quiet diplomacy” to combat Nazism, but there is no evidence for this. Besides, even after WW II, Pius never condemned the Nazi Holocaust! Hardly the sign of a saint. If inaction in the face of mass murder counts, Pius deserves to fall from grace, not be lifted up.
