A note from Jewish Family Service reminds us:
This year, especially, you can help us make sure no one feels forgotten.
The subject is Passover.
Food for Passover, to be exact.
Maot Chitim or Kimcha dPischa ?money for wheat to bake matzah is a venerable Jewish charity.
The month of Passover, Nisan, is almost upon us.
Time to remember that not everyone can afford four cups of wine, matzah, bitter herbs, eggs, matzah meal, gefilte fish and all the rest of the Passover necessities.
It is time to replenish the Maot Chitim funds.
Not to mention: Because on Passover each Jew becomes a redeemed, liberated, free person, it is not right to have to make do with necessities. On Passover, each Jew has the right to eat and to luxuriate like a king.
That is why we join Jewish Family Service in asking you to turn to your own synagogue or temple, to Jewish Family Service itself or to the Synagogue Council of Greater Denver, to offer a small percentage of your resources so that Denver Jewry can truly be a community this Passover.
A community of free people.
A community of celebrants.
Of enthusiastic welcomers of the festival of freedom.
Passover.
The anniversary of the pivotal historic event when the Creator of Heaven and Earth extricated us from Egypt, when He took a rag-tag assemblage of slaves unto Himself, giving them and all their descendants true freedom: His sovereignty.
This embraces the equality and the right to live free of oppression that each human being deserves.
Indeed, this year, as every year, you can help make sure that no one feels forgotten.
