Kirkel to speak April 10 at BMH-BJ Remembrance

Rosalyn KirkelBMH-BJ’s Holocaust remembrance Shabbat service will be Saturday, April 10, 9 a.m. The service includes storyteller Rosalyn Kirkel, speaking at 11 a.m., and Holocaust remembrance prayers.

“Shtetele Belz: Music Saved His Life,” the Holocaust survival story of Shmuel Gogol, will be told by Kirkel. It was at the march of remembrance and hope mission in Poland, where she was invited to tell her life’s story, that Kirkel was touched by Gogol’s story, as related by the Israeli guide.

After a search for the full story, Kirkel received help from a friend, an Israeli child survivor and translator., who found a short video at Yad Vashem about Shmuel Gogol and translated it into English.

A Holocaust educator, Kirkel feels a responsibility to be the voice for the million and a half children who were murdered.

By dramatizing Holocaust survival stories, she brings history to life for a better understanding of what happened, and the lessons to be learned.

On Monday, April 12, Sen. Joyce Foster will read Kirkel’s life story at the reading of the Colorado Legislature’s Senate Holocaust resolution.
