Trude Kutner, a Holocaust survivor who spent the WW II years residing in the Shanghai Ghetto, passed away Feb. 28, 2020 in Denver. Funeral services took place March 1 at Congregation BMH-BJ with Rabbi Yaakov Chaitovsky, Rabbi Yaakov Meyer and Mrs. Kutner’s husband, Cantor Zachary Kutner, officiating. Feldman Mortuary made the arrangements.
A native of Vienna, Mrs.Kutner was born Oct. 6, 1922. As a teenager, she fled the Nazis with her family and spent the war years in Shanghai. She resided in New York and Hong Kong during subsequent years and settled in Denver in the 1970s.
She married Cantor Kutner here in 1995.
Mrs. Kutner was a homemaker and was active in Jewish activities throughout her life, including the burial society, chevra kadisha, in Hong Kong.
In Denver she was affiliated with Congregation BMH, later BMH-BJ, for which her husband served as cantor.
Survivors include her husband Cantor Zachary Kutner of Denver; son Harry Gelbard of Tampa, Fla.; and numerous stepchildren, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Congregation BMH-BJ or to the Rocky Mountain Chevra Kadisha.
