have the opposite question. Not this question: How can the Torah say that the sins of the fathers will be visited on the children down to the fourth generation? It seems only right to say that the fathers are responsible for their own deeds; their descendants are not. What kind of justice is it to hold the children responsible for the sins of the fathers? That is the question I don’t have. Because realistically speaking, we all bear the “sins” of our forbears. If one takes an expansive (though not loose) look at the sins of the fathers, the Torah simply means: I am the child of my parents.
