Jessie Barone Schwartz, a social worker for 25 years, passed away Jan. 21, 2009, in Boulder. She was 97.

She had a long and rich life, full of good works and loving relationships, her family said.
My Aunt Jessie was an inspiration of achievement, goodness and loyalty, added niece Ann Lemberg. I adored her.
Jessie was born on Aug. 2, 1911, in Philadelphia to Sarah Leibenkopf Barone and Philip Barone, immigrants from Baranovka, Ukraine.
Philip and Sarah moved to Denver when Jessie was an infant. They had a store on West Colfax.
A distinguished student, Jessie attended DU on an honors scholarship and put herself through school working at the National Home for Jewish Children.
Right before her graduation from DU, she received the Hannah G. Solomon Scholarship Award from the National Council of Jewish Women to attend the University of Chicagos School of Social Work.
Jessie met her future husband, Prof. Edward E. Schwartz, at the universitys settlement house.
She received her MA from the University of Chicago in 1934.
A social worker for 25 years, Jessie specialized in family and child welfare at both public and private agencies.
She lived in Minneapolis, Virginia, New York City, Chicago and St. Louis.
Jessie and Ed retired to Boulder in 1986. Ed predeceased his wife.
Jessie is survived by her daughter Eleanor L. (Ernest) Kendall and son Philip H. Schwartz; grandchildren Sara L. Schwartz Kendall, Katherine A. (David Akeson) Kendall and Bernard D. (Jennifer) Schwartz; and great-granddaughters Elliot Maya Schwartz, Clara Jessie Schwartz and Claire Kendall Akeson.
