Gary Uhlmann, Holocaust refugee and an instrumental force behind the establishment of Lone Tree, passed away on Feb. 18, 2022. He recently celebrated his 92nd birthday.
Mr. Uhlmann was born on Dec. 25, 1929 in Frankfurt, Germany. His family fled from the Holocaust and found refuge in Chicago, Ill. After serving in the US Navy, Mr. Uhlmann later settled in Colorado, and became an administrator for the Dept. of Health, Education and Welfare (now the Dept. of Health and Human Services).
A volunteer at the state legislature, Mr. Uhlmann pushed for the incorporation of Lone Tree, and served on the Lone Tree City Council from 1996-2002.
He received a key to the city in May, 2002.
“Gary remained happy and grateful for all that was good in his life,” his family said, “watching ‘Jeopardy,’ cheering on the Broncos, and a glass of good wine.”

Survivors are children Suzanne (Stuart) Gough, Stephen (Sherrie) Uhlmann and Sheryl Uhlmann; stepchildren James Krall and Nancy Young, and four grandchildren.
