Elayne Tatar

Attorney and women’s rights activist Elayne Tatar died November 9, 2021, at the age of 82. A service was held Monday, November 15 at Judean Memorial Gardens in Olney, Md.

Mrs. Tatar was born Elayne Raye Shochet in Washington, DC on August 23, 1939. She attended Penn State University and American University’s Washington College of Law, receiving her law degree in 1966. That same year she married and moved to Texas, practicing family law.

Displaying a passion for women’s rights, Mrs. Tatar was the first female member of the Fort Worth Bar Assn. She was active in the National Organization for Women, and as early as her college years Mrs. Tatar campaigned for DC residents’ right to vote.

In 2007, Mrs. Tatar moved to Denver, and became an active member of the Heather Gardens community.

Mrs. Tatar is survived by her son Bradley (Jinsook Choi) Tatar; son Edmund (Erin) Tatar; and four grandchildren.
