BMH-BJ resigns from OU, ponders its future direction

 a letter dated Dec. 31, 2015, and distributed to synagogue members, H. Michael Miller, president, and Rabbi Yaakov Chaitovsky, spiritual leader, wrote that the congregation had learned that the OU was planning to expel BMH-BJ over its mixed seating policy, a bone of contention between the OU and the Denver synagogue at least since 1988. “Rather than deal with the negative publicity of being expelled,” Miller and Chaitovsky wrote, “our Board of Directors met, and on behalf of the Congregation, made the difficult decision to resign, at least temporarily from the OU.” Martin Nachimson, president of the OU, told the IJN this week that the organization has received notification of BMH-BJ’s resignation and confirmed that it is no longer a member of the Orthodox umbrella […]
