Betty Simmons

Betty SimmonsBetty Jane Simmons, a Denver native and lifelong resident, passed away Oct. 1, 2011, in Denver. Rabbi Joe Black and Cantor Regina Heit officiated at the Oct. 4 service at Temple Emanuel. Interment followed at Emanuel Cemetery. Feldman Mortuary made the arrangements.

“What a bright light she was for so many — a best friend, favorite relative, beloved companion,” the family said. “We will miss her irresistible smile, her endless generosity and her unsolicited advice.”

Mrs. Simmons was born July 11, 1921, in Denver. She graduated East High School and attended DU for two years.

She married Seymour Simmons, Jr. on Jan. 24, 1943.

A homemaker, Mrs. Simmons also was president of the Temple Emanuel Sisterhood.

Mrs. Simmons is survived by her husband of 68 years Seymour Simmons, Jr., of Denver; son Seymour (Martine) Simmons III of South Carolina and daughter Beverly (Ross Duffin) Simmons of Cleveland; and grandchildren David Simmons-Duffin of Boston, Arielle Simmons of Boston, Selena Simmons-Duffin of Washington, DC, and Jonah Luc Simmons of South Carolina.
