I think we can all say, regardless of our point of view, that this past week was a big week for the Jewish people. It did feel larger than life and quite historic to witness both Abbas propose the creation of a future Palestinian state for his people, as well as Netanyahu powerfully defending our homeland with true Jewish pride.
Its interesting, the more the idea and reality of a future Palestinian state is talked and written about, the more it makes me feel that it is also the future and reality of the future Israeli state that is really at stake here.
Unfortunately, the two go hand in hand. For if a future Palestinian state means a Judenrein state, as a Palestinian official said last week, where does that leave the Israeli Jews? Or, should a Palestinian state arise, the Palestinian Jews? Meaning, all those Jews who currently live in the settlements that everyone talks about all those Jews living in Hebron and Judea and Samaria would need to be transferred from what would become the modern day state of Palestine to modern day Israel.
All while Israeli Arabs get to continue living in the land of milk and honey, of course.
In other words, the Palestinians are saying they will not honor the very Law of Return that they demand Israel apply to Palestinians.
Forget about the morally reprehensible dimension of the statement that Palestine would be Judenrein, an out and out ethnically discriminatory foundation to a Palestinian state. What about the pragmatic aspect?
On the ground, how exactly would that work?
And what about Hamas open acknowledgement of its desire to destroy the very existence of Israel?
