Your views on Bernie Sanders

Would you vote for Bernie Sanders? That’s the question we put to you on our online poll, and while a majority of you (57.1%) said no, the vote was tight.

On both sides of the question we offered you a substantive and a realpolitik option. What’s interesting is that most of you voted based on substance, not political strategies. Of the no votes, 47.6% said “his policy ideas are too extreme,” while only 9.5% voted no because Sanders “doesn’t have a chance of winning.”

On the yes said, the majority of voters (23.8%) said Sanders is “true to the values of the Democratic party,” while only 9.5% said they would vote for Sanders because he is “the antidote to Hillary Clinton.”

The way we phrased our realpolitik options, however, means that those who said they would not vote for Sanders because he doesn’t have a chance are probably Sanders supporters; and some of those who said they would vote for Sanders because he’s the antidote to Clinton could be Republicans!

With the percentages for both the same, however, it doesn’t skew the poll results, so we can say, fairly conclusively, a plurality — but not a majority — of IJN.com users are not “feeling the Bern.”
