Norman Tepley

Norman Tepley, a Denver native, physicist and graduate of East High School, passed away on July 6, 2021 in Detroit after a long illness. Rabbi Jeffrey Falick of the Congregation for Humanistic Judaism officiated at the July 11 service. Ira Kaufman Chapel made the arrangements.

Mr. Tepley was born Dec. 14, 1935 in Denver.

A physicist, he graduated from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1957 and earned his PhD there in 1963.

He married Aviva Rubin, also an MIT student, in 1959. She predeceased him in 1967 shortly after the birth of their daughter Jamina. In 1968, he married Elaine Ash, who passed away in 2000.

Mr. Tepley was chairman of the Physics Dept. at Oakland University (1983-1996) and director of the magnetoencephalography laboratory at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit.

Mr. Tepley was predeceased by his parents, Ida and Dr. David Tepley of Denver, and his brother, Dr. Lee Raymond Tepley.

He is survived by daughter Jamina Tepley (Stoyanovich); sons Alan Tepley and Philip Tepley; and granddaughters Lidia and Lina Stoyanovich. He will also be mourned by Miriam Leventhal.
