Zoltan Gancz

Zoltan “Zoli” Gancz, a Holocaust survivor, passed away March 13, 2017, in Cheyenne, Wyo. He was 92. Rabbi Larry Moldo officiated at the March 16 service held in Mt. Sinai Synagogue’s main sanctuary.

Interment followed at Mt. Sinai Cemetery. Schrader, Aragon & Jacoby Funeral Home made the arrangements.

Mr. Gancz was born Dec. 27, 1924, in Vel’ke Blahovo, Czechoslovakia.

In 1941, at age 17, Mr. Gancz was captured by the Nazis and forced to build roads in labor camps.

He was liberated in 1945 and came to the US in December, 1951.

Mr. Gancz married Goldie Sigmond in 1952. They moved to Cheyenne in August, 1954.

Along with his brother-in-law, he bought a business in Cheyenne and operated it for many years.

Mr. Gancz regularly spoke about the Holocaust at schools, temples and churches.

He was an honorary member of VFW Post 1881 and belonged to the Elks Club and the Eagles Club.

Mrs. Gancz predeceased her husband.

Mr. Gancz is survived by his daughter Lea Gancz and son Bernard (Linda) Gancz; sister Helen Zigmond of Cheyenne; and grandchildren Sarah and Shioban.
