Yeshiva student murdered on West Side

(YESHIVA WORLD NEWS) — A student at Yeshiva Toras Chaim was shot and killed in Denver.

Police say the horrific incident unfolded in the late Tuesday, Aug. 17, and early Wednesday morning hours, Aug. 18, in front of the yeshiva, located at 1555 Stuart Street in Denver.

Sources tell YWN that a vehicle drove up and opened fire. The vehicle immediately fled the area. The boy was rushed to a local hospital where he died. The victim has been identified as Shmuel (Shmuli) Silverberg, son of Mordechai and Dena Silverberg of University Heights, Cleveland. He was 19.

The funeral was scheduled for Wednesday in Denver with burial in Lakewood, NJ. Feldman Mortuary was making the arrangements.

The Denver Police Department is searching for three vehicles connected to the shooting which detectives say was a deadly crime spree. According to 9News and Fox News, the crime spree started on East Colfax, on Colfaxe and Grape, at 10:50 p.m. with a car jacking. No injuries were reported.

A short time later, at around 11 p.m., a shooting and car jacking took place in the 1500 block of Lafayette St. One person was critically injured. The crime spree ended with the fatal shooting of Silverberg at 11:30 p.m.

Police are looking for three vehicles connected to the crime spree.
