William Bill Lipper, an underwriter with State Mutual Life (later Allmerica) for 48 years, passed away Dec. 20, 2010.
Rabbi Joe Black and Cantor Regina Heit officiated at the Dec. 28 memorial service held at Temple Emanuel.
Mr. Lipper was born May 27, 1923, in New York City. In 1939 he moved to Dallas, where he spent his high school years.
He served in the Marine Corps during WW II. Following the war, he was stationed in China and wrote for the Marine newspaper.
Mr. Lipper earned a BA in English from the University of Texas in 1947 and worked as a traveling sales representative for his uncles toy business in Dallas.
Then he moved to Denver, where he and his first wife Ruth Mayer had five children.
In 1953, Mr. Lipper joined State Mutual Life as an insurance agent. He became a CLU, served as the associations president and was a life member of the Million Dollar Round Table.
He married Elizabeth Fried Weil in 1970 and brought her two children into the family. They shared their insurance careers and a love of travel and reading.
Mr. Lipper, an avid photographer, was an early Broncos season ticket holder who attended games for 40 years.
After his retirement, he volunteered at The Denver Zoo and Ocean Journey/Denver Aquarium.
Mr. Lipper is survived by his wife Elizabeth Lipper; children Wendy (Doug) Ruckel, Terry (Duncan Moyer) Lipper, Carol Lipper, Rick Lipper and Doug Lipper; stepchildren Steve (Wendy) Weil and Judy Weil (Jerry) Oksner; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
