William Karo
William Howard Karo passed away Feb. 3 in Miami at the age of 93.
Mr. Karo was the father of Cherie Karo (the late Larry) Schwartz of Denver.
“He lived a life filled with knowledge and a passion for learning, travel and justice,” his daughter said.
Mr. Karo was a lawyer and appellate conferee with the Internal Revenue Service in Miami for 37 years. He also held a degree in accounting
He was a chief witness for the government in tax fraud cases.
After retiring from the government, Mr. Karo continued helping people on a pro bono basis to ensure fair representation under the law.
He was the president of the Miami chapter of the American Federation of Government Employees for decades.
Mr. Karo enjoyed traveling, going on cruises and trips around the world and other adventures.
He loved music, the University of Miami and its Hurricanes sports teams, botanic gardens, swimming, zoos and fine dining.
Mr. Karo is survived by his wife Sandy; daughters Cherie Karo Schwartz and Donna (Brad) Nunn; and grandsons Chris and Mike.
