William Bill Albert Greenberg, a longtime Denver resident, passed away Feb. 25, 2009, in Denver.
A memorial service was held Feb. 28 at the home of Manny and Ellie Greenberg. Several family members spoke lovingly about Mr. Greenberg at the service, which was led by Rabbi Nadya Gross.
Mr. Greenberg was born July 10, 1918, in Chicago. He graduated high school and briefly attended college.
He worked as an engineer for Motorola in Chicago for 13 years prior to entering the service in the early 1940s.
For two years, he was stationed with the US Air Force at Lowry Air Force Base and went to navigator school. He also fell in love with Denver.
Mr. Greenberg married Ethel Rice of Iron River, Mich., in 1947. (When he proposed, he intentionally placed the engagement ring in a bowl of chicken soup.)
They moved to Denver in 1950.
After selling real estate here, he became a partner with his brother Manny in University TV and Stereo, 1952-1974. He retired in the 1980s.
Mr. Greenberg, who was interested in astronomy, science and music, loved playing tennis and won numerous awards. He also enjoyed watching movies and playing pool.
An avid ham radio operator, his call signal was WQVRW.
Mrs. Greenberg predeceased her husband.
Mr. Greenberg is survived by his daughter Marilyn Greenberg; brother Manny (Ellie) Greenberg of Denver; grandchildren Shanna and Michelle Kletzky; and son-in-law Ed Kletzky.
He was predeceased by his daughter Sally Greenberg Kletzky.
