What’s up, Weissmann?

Hats off to Paul Weissmann, chief of staff for the state House Democrats and newly appointed Boulder County public trustee.

In a show of integrity, Weissmann cut his House chief of staff salary in half when he was appointed to his new post of public trustee. He did this because he realized he wouldn’t be giving his House job full attention, due to his new (and other) jobs.

According to the Denver Post, the former state senator and representative had earned $57,860 annually, the lowest of any of the four chiefs of staff of the Colorado legislature’s caucuses, despite his reputation as being “one of the most knowledgeable people under the dome.” Weissmann also volunteered to forfeit his pay for 16 days since the legislature’s session ended in mid-May. After all, he wasn’t handling any chief-of-staff duties the last half of the month.

Meanwhile, Weissmann is also trying to reduce his public trustee pay on days when is not working on foreclosure matters, although that hasn’t been so easy to accomplish because the pay for public trustees is an automatic annual salary.

It’s refreshing to come across a worker — especially a public servant — who subscribes to the ideal of honest pay for an honest day’s work. Paul Weissmann is a wonderful role model.

Meanwhile, in addition to his jobs at the State Capitol and as a Boulder County public trustee, he is the manager and weekend bartender of a Louisville restaurant. This, on top of being a devoted husband and involved father of two!

What’s up, Weissmann? What’s your secret for time management?
