Walker Stapleton is running for governor

Stapleton, Colorado state treasurer, is hoping to follow in the footsteps of previous Colorado governors, Democrat Roy Romer and Republican Bill Owens. Both were state treasurer before becoming two-term governors. Walker Stapleton also carries perhaps the most well known name in Denver politics. His great-grandfather Benjamin F. Stapleton was Denver’s longest serving mayor at 20 years (1923-1931 and 1935-1947). Stapleton was the name of Denver’s airport, 1929-1995, supplanted by the beautiful and ever expanding Stapleton neighborhood, on the grounds of the old airport. Walker Stapleton looks closer to home for political inspiration and experience. His father was the ambassador to the Czech Republic, 2000-2002.
