Vivian Patricia Coggan, a former Denver resident for 20 years, passed away from Alzheimer’s disease on Sunday, June 26, 2016, in Houston, Texas. She was 89. Levy Funeral Directors made the arrangements.

Mrs. Coggan was born July 9, 1926, in Houston to Alexander and Gertrude Volpin.

Raised in Houston, Mrs. Coggan later resided in Denver for 20 years.

She married Morton Coggan in 1960. They were together for about 16 years until they separated.

While living in Denver, Mrs. Coggan became involved in a myriad of social causes.

She also was a breast cancer survivor “who imbued hope, optimism, perseverance and especially love,” her family said.

Mrs. Coggan appreciated beauty in all its forms, including art, nature and music. She loved attending the symphony and opera.

“Vivian’s philanthropy was from her heart, and she lived her life giving back to others,” the family said. “She was a gift to her friends and loved ones.

“Her beautiful smile and heart-felt laughter will be missed but never forgotten.”

Mrs. Coggan is survived by her children Jay (Ilkodo) Coggan and Roseanne Coggan; sister Alicia (B.Z.) Lee; grandchildren Kimberli and Tim Bell, Shelli Caldwell-Sparkman and Aniko and Andrea Coggan; great-grandchildren Noah Jones, Lana Bell, Preston and Kylie Caldwell and Jude Sparkman; and sister-in-law Bernice Coggan.

She was predeceased by her son Harvey Merfish.
