US Senate — pivotal race: John Hickenlooper

Hickenlooper and the Colorado Jewish community have been on close terms for almost two decades. Both as mayor of Denver and as governor of Colorado, the Democratic aspirant for the US Senate seat has befriended Colorado Jews and schmoozed comfortably with members of the community. In his 2011 gubernatorial inaugural address, the Intermountain Jewish News reported, he used an old Yiddish word landsman, which he translated as “fellow villager.” “I think we can learn from this Yiddish expression and the warmth it evokes,” Hickenlooper said. “This value doesn’t spring from government. But it can teach all of us to govern together.
