Trudy Strauss: survivor, centenarian, potter

Generations, Boomer-Senior section Strauss gazes through the sliding glass door in her southeast Denver apartment, smiles and says “I like sunsets. I like watching them.” Strauss has seen many of them, and at the same time she has held the proverbial sunset at bay. She is 107, quick with her wit, engaging, and happy to share small parcels of her many experiences. A Holocaust escapee, Strauss fled Rastatt, Germany in 1935, at the age of 20, with her family left behind. An uncle, Norbert Kaufman, was in the US and sponsored Strauss’ exit.
