Tmura Haredi College of Engineering offers haredi women an escape from poverty

PASSOVER EDITION 5777 SECTION B PAGE 10 is a 19-year-old haredi native of Jerusalem. She graduated from an Orthodox high school for girls which emphasized religious studies over secular academics. She spent a year in a girls’ seminary. Rivky is married to Yehuda who spends his days studying Torah in a kollel, for which he receives a small stipend of approximately $200 a month. Rivky is the breadwinner in the family, working as a teacher’s assistant in a haredi preschool, for which she receives 3,000 shekels ($814) a month.
