‘The Last Dance’

What are, uh, rainbow bagels? Is it true that the French start their workday at 10:30 a.m.? And was Scottie Pippen really the 2nd best NBA player — but only the 122nd highest paid?

Yup, I’m back on Netflix. I couldn’t resist the lure of a new season of “The Crown,” so for the next month, I’ll be binge-watching.

When you get a plate from a buffet, say Thanksgiving dinner, do you eat your favorite food first, or savor it until the end? I’m definitely a save-the-best-for-last kind of person, so before I get to “The Crown,” I’m working through other content.

Since I haven’t been on Netflix for a while, I’m late to the party on many series, like — you may have guessed — the “Great British Bake Off.” I’ve been a fan of this show since it first started, but is it running out of ideas? “Rainbow bagels” for a technical bake? I thought these were supposed to be classic recipes, oftentimes a staple of a patisserie or a baker’s kitchen. Let me say, the thought of shmearing these technicolor bad boys with cream cheese and topping with capers and red onion is downright unappetizing!

The other series I’m catching up on is “The Last Dance,” about Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls. There’s a reason why everyone was talking about this when it first aired. From a compelling cast of characters, to a classic ownership vs. players battle, the series draws you in, even if you’re not a basketball or Bulls fan.

I always found the Jordan-Pippen partnership fascinating. Even though Jordan is arguably the best of all time, without Pippen he could have remained a player racking up individual accolades but never catching the big prize of a championship. “The Last Dance,” though I’m only four episodes in, really gets to the architecture of building a winning team, as well as the pathos of its end.

The best — or most surreal — moment, though? When Jordan wins his bet on the Broncos in the 1998 Super Bowl. I was literally watching this scene as the Broncos took the field on Sunday without a quarterback on the roster — possibly the worst-ever outing of this once venerated franchise.

Talk about how the mighty have fallen!
