Terse and timely

When dollars are tight, an economy of words is in order. Terse tips for reducing credit card debt:

• If you can’t pay for something with funds in your checking account or the cash in your wallet, don’t put it on your credit card.

• Don’t carry your credit card when you go shopping.

• An emergency is defined as “a serious, unexpected situation or occurrence that demands immediate action.” This definition does not apply to $400 shoes or fixing anything that isn’t totally broken.

• Yes, life could, maybe, possibly, improve by the time the credit card bill arrives. But if you can’t make today’s payment you probably won’t do any better next month. Live within your means.

• When space is as tight as your budget, watch your word limit.
