Team Israel heads to South Korea to compete in the World Baseball Classic next week, they’ll be taking a bit of Colorado with them. Quite a bit, actually. The team’s manager is Jerry Weinstein, a veteran of the Colorado Rockies coaching staff, currently overseeing the team’s AA farm club system. Colorado will also be represented on the diamond itself, behind home plate specifically, in the form of catcher Ryan Lavarnway who — although currently signed to the Oakland Athletics on a minor league contract — lives in the Denver area with his wife Jamie during the off season. Both are hoping for Team Israel to come out on top after competing in the 16-team international tournament whose winner earns the coveted title of World Champion. […]
