Longtime Denver resident Sylvia Springer died on January 6, 2023, at the age of 98. A service was held on January 8 at Emanuel Cemetery, officiated by Rabbi Emily Hyatt. Feldman Mortuary made the arrangements.
A native of New York City and born on December 11, 1924, Mrs. Springer (nee Milner) was known as an exceptional athlete in her youth and was at one time the New York City ping-pong champion.
In January, 1945, she married Stanley Springer; the couple moved to Colorado. Mr. Springer died unexpectedly on January 11, 1983. Mrs. Springer remained in the Winston Downs home where she and her family lived for over 54 years until her death.
“Everyone she met became a friend, and all of her friends were friends for life,” her family said.
The family said Mrs. Springer was a frequent visitor at the Colorado Athletic Club Monaco, where she would participate in the Silver Sneakers program. She was also active in JCC programs.
“Sylvia loved flowers and was at her core an artist and lover of life,” her family said. “She mastered many paint mediums, especially water color, and frequently sold her work at art shows.
“A longtime member of the Park Hill Art Club, she had quite a following.”
Survivors are children Jeff (Amy) Springer, Randi (Jim) McKnight and Linda (Doug) Aglietti; and grandchildren Cydney Springer, Samantha Springer, Jackson Springer, Harry Springer, Jamie McKnight, Spencer McKnight, Leah Aglietti, Jake Aglietti and Drew Aglietti.
