Stanley Robert Flaks, a Denver native, passed away April 15, 2013, in Colorado Springs. He was 96. A memorial service was held April 18 at the Shrine of Remembrance Funeral Home, which made the arrangements.

Stan was a wonderful man, the family said. He was a loving husband of 73 years (his wedding anniversary was April 7), grandfather, great-grandfather, and a tremendous father and role model. He will be greatly missed.
Mr. Flaks was born Nov. 30, 1916, in Denver, to the late Abe and Mary (Meyer) Flaks. He graduated from East High and earned an accounting degree at DU.
Following college, he married Regina (Reggie) Schnitzer in 1940.
In Denver he worked for his uncle Charlie Flaks at Flaks Mercantile, as well as the Denver Insurance Agency.
After serving in the Army in WW II, Mr. Flaks moved to Colorado Springs with his wife in 1950.
He opened a branch of Flaks Mercantile, a candy and tobacco distributor. He also was one of the founders of the S.R. Flaks Company, Welcome Smokers and Smoker Friendly with his sons Rick and Greg.
Mr. Flaks served on the boards of Temple Beth El, Temple Shalom, Garden of the Gods Rotary, Memorial Hospital, National Assn. of Candy Distributors, National Assn. of Tobacco Distributors and the Leukemia Society of America.
He loved to travel, entertain, attend sporting events (particularly golf), and making and repairing his wifes picture frames. An avid woodworker, he enjoyed attending the symphony and spending time with family and friends.
And he always loved to tell or hear a good joke.
Mr. Flaks is survived by his wife Regina (Reggie); sons Gregory (Lesley) and Richard Rick (Mindy); grandchildren David (Laurinda) Flaks and Rachel (Brett) Waldman, Steven and Molly Flaks; and great-grandchildren Dylan and Hope Hopey Waldman.
