Sports angst in a pandemic

the summer simmers on, and the coronavirus pandemic only grows worse in the US, the wide world of sports is suddenly not looking so wide. Fans of major sports are facing strangely reconfigured playoffs and shortened regular seasons, not to mention, few if any of them will be allowed to see their favorite teams in person. While virtually all the games that do take place will be available via television or streaming, the prospect of star athletes going head-to-head in virtually empty stadiums and arenas is, for many fans, and players, too, a bitter pill to swallow.
