Bernstein’s Bat Mitzvah Saturday, May 30, in Temple Sinai’s chapel signified a milestone in this young gymnast’s Jewish life and the Reform temple that shuttered in mid-March. One week earlier, doctors removed casts bound to both of Reese’s wrists in late April for a gymnastics injury — but she never lost sight of her goal. For Sinai, this marked the first Bat Mitzvah held within its walls following the stay-at-home orders to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
