Sherwin Yoelin, 85, a respected independent oil producer, passed away April 13, 2020, in Encinitas, Calif., due to heart failure. Rabbi Salomon Gruenwald officiated at the April 19 burial at Golden Hill Cemetery, where his parents and grandparents are buried. Feldman Mortuary made the arrangements.
“Sherwin was a gentle, soft spoken, sweet soul,” his loved ones said. “He was extremely humble and never spoke of his own accomplishments or successes. He loved his family and his cherished dogs, always having at least one by his side.”
Mr. Yoelin was born Feb. 25, 1935, in Denver and attended East High School. His family had extensive roots in the Denver area, with deep ties to the HEA.
He attended the University of Oklahoma and met his met his future wife Rochelle Yamin, also a Denverite, at the Texas-OU football game in Dallas.
They married on Sept. 7, 1957.
Mr. Yoelin earned a petroleum degree with honors and completed his MA at the Colorado School of Mines.
He spent most of career in Southern California and developed an exemplary reputation in the oil and gas industry.
Author of numerous technical papers, Mr. Yoelin established a successful consulting business and became an independent oil producer.
“His success was driven by making projects better than when he acquired them,” the family said, adding that he applied the same focus to building model trains and growing beautiful roses.
Recognized numerous times for his technical achievements throughout his career, he persevered through difficult times in the oil and gas industry.
Mr. Yoelin and Rochelle loved to travel and collected items from their many journeys. One of Mr. Yoelin’s favorite destinations was Jenny Lake in Grand Teton National Park.
He belonged to the Society of Professional Evaluation Engineers.
Sherwin Yoelin is survived by his wife Rochelle Yoelin; children Corie Ross, Steve (Eileen) and Alan (Linda); grandchildren Evan Ross, Jessica Ross, Ryan Yoelin, Darren Yoelin, Sam Yoelin, Bryan Yoelin, Amy Yoelin, Amanda Yoelin and Allison Yoelin; and nephew Adam Yoelin and niece Amara Yoelin.
