Sheila Lehrburger

Sheila Caroline Lehrburger, one of the first clinical social workers in private practice in Colorado and instrumental in founding the Colorado Society for Clinical Social Work, passed away peacefully at her home on July 23, 2020. There were no services. Feldman Mortuary made the arrangements.

“Sheila was a devoted wife, mother and family historian who loved life, travel and nature,” her family said.

“Always leading with an open heart, she had a tremendous capacity for empathy, cheered for the underdog and related with kindness to people from all walks of life.”

Mrs. Lehrburger was born in 1927 and raised in Miami.

She earned degrees from Duke University, an MSW from Columbia University and a psychoanalytic graduate degree at the Colorado Center of Psychoanalytic Studies.

In 1950, she married Dr. Henry Lehrburger and they raised five children.

Dr. Lehrburger passed away after 27 years of marriage.

She then married Paul Littman, who passed away in 2014.

Mrs. Lehrburger enjoyed a career as one of the first clinical social workers in private practice in Colorado and helped establish the Colorado Society for Clinical Social Work.

“She was a treasured teacher, mentor and colleague,” the family said.

Mrs. Lehrburger is survived by her children Carl, Gerry, Florie, Eddie and Lili; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
