Shaya Zel, a native of Ukraine and a Coloradoan for 12 years, passed away July 22, 2011 in Denver. Funeral services took place July 25 at Fairmount Cemetery. Feldman Mortuary made the arrangements.
A native of Odessa, Ukraine, Mr. Zel was born June 25, 1918. He resided in Ukraine until 1999 when he moved to Denver and, later, Arvada.
During WW II, he served in the Soviet army.
He worked as an electrician and plumber.
Mr. Zel is survived by his daughter Anna Melamed of Denver; grandson Feliks Melamed of Northglenn; granddaughter Lilya Martin of Denver; and great-grandchildren Daniel Melamed and Ashley Gistiuzia.
Mr. Zel was preceded in death by his wife Tamara on May 20, 1999.
