Shavuot links to the world

We all know the most important feature of Shavuot – just read our earlier blog post, “Ode to a cheesecake.” But is eating rich, creamy food really all the holiday is about? Read Nextbook’s Shavuot: a Guide for the Perplexed and discover the biblical roots and traditions of the holiday.

One of these is the Book of Ruth, the megillah of the Moabite woman who followed her mother-in-law Naomi back to the latter’s homeland of Israel and into the Jewish faith. In the Jerusalem Post, noted Jewish writer Berel Wein discusses Ruth, Naomi and kindness.

Still stuck on the eating dairy tradition? Visit the LA Times’ feature on fresh homemade cheeses – that you can concoct right in your kitchen.

Happy Shavuot!
