Selma Lorraine Jultak, known for years to many Denverites for her flower arrangements, warmth and smile, passed away Nov. 15, 2014, in Denver. Cantor Maurice Weiss officiated at the Nov. 18 graveside service at Mt. Nebo Cemetery. Feldman Mortuary made the arrangements.
Anyone that crossed paths with Selma would tell you she was such a loving, caring and amazing person, the family said. She will be truly missed.
Selma was born April 24, 1925, on the Lower East Side of New York.
She graduated at the top of her class.
Michael Jultak and Selma were childhood sweethearts.
As teens, Selma would help Michael sell flowers in subways and in Times Square.
They were married on Oct. 7, 1944.
The couple moved to Denver and opened Michael Jultak Floral Designs on E. Colfax in 1948. The florist shop served Denver and the surrounding communities for over 66 years.
She always knew what was going in the Denver community, the family said. Selma and Mike did most of the weddings, Bar and Bat Mitzvahs, baby showers, anniversaries and memorials.
Selma loved being at the shop, answering phones, writing the cards in her beautiful calligraphy and greeting and conversing with customers, the family said. She always said that flowers lasted longer than a kiss, and that receiving flowers captures lasting memories.
A theatrical couple, Selma and Michael performed at the Bonfils Theater for several years. Selmas most notable role was Yenta in Fiddler on the Roof.
Selma and Mike were great entertainers and hosts, the family said. Their home was always filled with family, friends, fun and laughter.
A member of Beth Joseph and the HEA, Selma was a contributor to the American Diabetes Foundation and the MS Run for the Cure in Denver and Los Angeles.
After Michaels death, Selma ran the floral shop until ill health forced her to retire. Her son Skip now manages the business.
She was a wonderful grandmother, sharing stories and singing Yiddish songs to them, the family said. They had many wonderful, happy outings with her, and she loved and adored them.
Selma Jultak is survived by her children Steven Skip (Debra) Jultak and Johanna Jultak; and grandchildren Michael, Mark and Matthew Jultak.
